Achieving a decade-long goal and reaching a milestone in success are good times to celebrate. A brilliant reward is a Marquise Diamond Ring in 18k yellow gold.
In the 18th century, King Louis XV of France commissioned a jeweller to cut a diamond in a shape that would resemble his mistress's lips, the Marchioness Madame de Pompadour, Jean Antoinette Poisson.
Following the initial cut, the diamond was named Marquise, referred to as a rank just below a duke. Its shape did not change over time. Prestigious individuals would don Marquise Diamonds to demonstrate their status. Marquise Diamonds are occasionally called Navette, meaning “small ship” in French. Marquise Diamonds are also known as olive-shaped diamonds, olive serving as a symbol of beauty, strength, divine blessing, and prosperity.
Marquise diamonds are cut with 56-58 facets in fancy cut, elongated shapes similar to round diamonds. It can have an impressive level of brilliance, scintillation, and fire. However, like other fancy-cut diamonds, finding a well-cut Marquise-shaped diamond can be challenging. James Allen lists 2500 pieces of Marquise-shaped diamonds on its website daily. Every diamond is photographed with 15x or greater magnification in 360°.
Choosing the right ring style for the fancy-cut diamond is one of the most important steps at the beginning. It’s all about the individual in the modern days. The ring reflects people’s styles, tastes, values, and distinctive personalities. James Allen offers over 120 settings for a fancy-cut diamond ring in white gold, yellow gold, platinum, and rose gold. The range of fancy-cut diamond settings from the most classic Solitaire, illusion Cluster, dainty Pavé, and sophisticated Cathedral to dazzling Halo.
Production time is around 30 days after payment. James Allen ships the ring overnight to Canada via FedEx International with tracking service. Under the USMCA regulations, any diamond ring manufactured in the US is exempt from Canadian duty. This is consistent with the previous NAFTA trade deal, which means no additional taxes were applied to a diamond ring bought from the US than a local jeweller in Canada.
The package arrived well-packed and secured. Inside the large white drop-lid box drawer, a beautiful silver envelope conceals a GIA report, a receipt, and appraisal documents. Under the magnetic lid is a red jewellery box at the centre of the upper deck.
The 18k yellow gold ring is in harmony with my skin tone and wears comfortably. The centre marquise diamond has excellent symmetry and polish. Its colour is within the colourless range. Inclusions are barely visible under 10x magnification. Bow-tie effects are minimal. The diamond would change its colours under different lighting conditions. Brilliance is stunning under natural lights indoors or outdoors on a cloudy day. Most of the time, the centre diamond would just look like the crystal-clear water of a mountain lake showing the patterns inside it vividly. Glitters would dance from facet to facet while the diamond is moving under the light. When warm tone light shines on the diamond, the mix of the sharp icy white light and warm gold-tone light dazzles. The resulting effect looks like the surface of a mountain lake at dawn or at sunset. The unique distinct character of the Marquise diamond is impeccable!
The cluster is in 18k yellow gold with twelve pieces of crazy sparkling diamonds, comprising eight pieces of marquise diamonds and four pieces of round diamonds with a total of 0.52ct. In the far distance, the centre diamond looks much more extensive than its size. With a close-up view of the cluster, the centre Marquise diamond shows brilliance without detracting from the cluster's beauty. The ring offers a charming, romantic, elegant, yet bold style. Not only is it a brilliant reward, but it would also be my new companion for years to come!
