The semi-arid yet fertilised cropland at the Hopis valley makes agriculture possible; Hopis are able to yield the major crops of corn, squash Bean, also known as Three Sisters Crops. The technique known as companion planting three crops closer to each other would grow better because corn needs lots of nitrogen produced by beans, squash plants spread around can prevent weeds from invading the cropland.
Squash Kachina is a Chief Kachina in the Pumpkin Clan. The original doll wears a mask and body paint of green with black stripes, breechcloth and carries yellow squash blossoms rattles. To make the rattles with a dried gourd shell, the Hopi removed the seeds through a small hole from the shell and replaced small crystals and coloured stone to create the short, sharp sounds.

Cocklebur Kachina is a plant kachina and a racer. His armbands represent the sacred butterfly.
Poli Sio Hemis, the butterfly Kachina, represents pollinators to collect pollen and carry it to other plants to help flowers, fruits and vegetables to produce new seeds.
Sotuknangu, Heart of the Sky God. The deity of the sky is believed to control the dangerous thunderheads, lighting, and destructive rain. He is impersonated by the religious elders and wears a peaked hat that represents a towering vertical thunderhead. The expandable crossed wood sticks in his hand represent lightning. It can be folded and unfolded by two handles at each end.
