2022 Harnais en Rosace shawl 140
The impeccable geometry of the Renaissance might as well be beyond compare, but Pierre Marie has added his own touch, liberating its rose windows, deconstructing its symmetry, twisting its friezes. Everything is spinning out of control! And yet things had got off to a good start: the waves turned in a synchronized circle, as if seeking to form a perfect dome, but this was without taking into account the plates in the Emile Hermès collection. A profusion of horse bits, cavessons and curb chains joined in, tying and untying, coiling in every direction, enough to make your head turn. Good luck in untangling the harness!
2022 Le Sacre des Saisons
A lion with a sunburst mane as golden as a wheatsheaf, an eagle camouflaged behind autumn leaves, a wolf shivering under an icy crown, and a horse embellished with spring flowers like a painting by Arcimboldo… In a hymn to the riches of nature, Pierre Marie reinvents the representation of the cycle of the seasons, each one personified by a fantastical animal executing a dance step. Their costumes are inspired by those designed by Henri de Gissey for the Ballet Les Fetes de Bacchus in the 17th century, and by Leon Bakst for the Ballets Russes in the early 1920s. It pays tribute to the depth of time in the form of baroque extravagance.
2021 Reactions en Chaines
Emblematic pieces from the house’s jewelry and accessories collections are delicately intertwined in this composition by Pierre Marie. The short links of the Chaîne d’Ancre bracelet are particularly recognizable. Designed by Robert Dumas in 1937 during a stay on the Breton coast, this nautically-inspired bracelet has become one of the house’s flagship creations. Harness parts – including stirrups and bits – are interspersed among these snaking chain links, forming a gold and silver lattice on which imaginations can run wild.
2020 Les Roues de Phaeton
The phaeton, named after the son of the solar deity in Greek mythology, is a horse-drawn vehicle that was popular in the late 18th century in France and England. Lightweight and easy to handle, it allowed the driver to move swiftly around town. Here, the designer Pierre Marie presents a rear perspective of the model in the Émile Hermès collection, with its large wheels and delicately painted decoration. Around the scarf, framed by harmonious curves, a pattern of palm leaves recalls the rug in Émile Hermès' office, where this precious carriage is displayed.
2020 La Source de Pegase
With a kick of a hoof from Pegasus, the winged horse and divine creature in Greek mythology, a spring bursts forth. Known as Hippocrene, this spring is located on Mount Helicon in Greece. The nine muses, daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne, goddess of memory, would come to drink from it. Pierre Marie's narrative eloquence is expressed in both line and composition. His design, an allegory of an idea springing to mind, tells this wonderful story. It depicts Pegasus with radiating wings, and muses dancing a farandole in a joyful and fantastical setting that is as terrestrial as it is cosmic.
